What Are Metallic Stickers?

Metallic stickers are printed on a reflective specialty material, so parts of your design pick up light like polished metal instead of sitting flat like ink on white.

How the material works

A standard sticker starts with a white base: every colour you print sits on top of it. Metallic material replaces that base with a mirror-like silver surface. Where your artwork is transparent or lightly inked, the silver shows through and reads as chrome. Where the ink is dense, the design behaves more like a normal print.

That single fact drives every design decision below: on metallic, the empty parts of your file are doing the most work.

Artwork that shines

Bold logos

Simple marks with clear silhouettes read best at sticker size.

Line work

Outlined designs let the metal surface carry the interior.

Transparent PNG or vector

Real transparency is what unlocks the chrome effect.

High contrast

Dark ink against exposed metal gives the strongest result.

Limited palettes

Two or three colours keep the finish looking deliberate.

Type with weight

Heavier letterforms hold up better than hairline fonts.

What to avoid

Photographs and full-bleed white backgrounds cover the metal entirely, which spends the premium material on an effect you can't see. Very pale tints can look washed out over silver, and hairline detail below about half a millimetre may close up.

Screenshots and images pulled from social media are usually too low-resolution. Start from the original logo file โ€” see the artwork guide for formats and resolution.

Where brands use them

Packaging seals, product branding, laptop stickers, limited editions, creator merch, event giveaways and product inserts. Metallic is the finish most businesses reach for when the sticker is the first physical thing a customer touches โ€” see custom stickers for business.

Metallic or holographic?

Metallic reads as premium and controlled. Holographic reads as playful and eye-catching, shifting colour as it moves. Compare them in the holographic stickers guide.
